Saline Valley Road

150 km / 12.0 kg CO2

  • The Joshua Tree
The Joshua Tree is the fifth studio album by rock band U2, released on 9 March 1987 on Island Records. Written and recorded in Dublin throughout 1986, it was produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. The album is dedicated to lead singer Bono's assistant, Greg Carroll, who was killed in a motorcycle accident during the album's recording. In contrast to the atmospherics and ambient experimentation of their previous album, The Unforgettable Fire, on The Joshua Tree, U2 aimed for a harder-hitting sound that used the limitation of strict song structures. Motivated by friendships with Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, and Van Morrison and a realisation that the band had a limited knowledge of music from before their childhood, U2 delved into Irish and American roots music. Thematically, The Joshua Tree depicts the group's love-hate relationship with the United States, influenced by the group's touring experiences in the country, American literature, Bono's travels to Africa and Central America    edit   » read more

  • Eureka Valley (Inyo County)
Eureka Valley is located in Inyo County, in eastern California in the southwestern United States. It is approximately 28 miles (45 km) long and up to 10 miles (16 km) wide, with elevations varying from 2870 feet (875 m) up to 8456 feet (2575 m). The southern section of the valley is now part of the Death Valley National Park - Death Valley itself lies just to the southeast. To the north is Deep Springs Valley, Fish Lake Valley, and the White Mountain Range. To the east the Last Chance Range rises over 5500 feet (1675 m) above the valley floor. To the west are the Saline Mountains, and to the southwest lies Saline Valley. Eureka Valley is a graben, like most other lower-lying areas of the Basin and Range Province. An improved gravel road crosses the valley, connecting the community of Big Pine to the northern Grapevine section of Death Valley. A 10 mile gravel road provides access to the southern end of the valley. More primitive routes exit the valley to the northwest via Soldier ...    edit   » read more
  • Darwin Falls
Darwin Falls is a waterfall located on the western edge of Death Valley National Park near the settlement of Panamint Springs, California. Although there exists a similarly named Darwin Falls Wilderness adjacent to the falls, the falls themselves are located in and administered by Death Valley National Park and the National Park Service. There are several falls, but they are mainly divided into the upper and lower with a small grotto in between. At a combined 80 feet (24 m), it is the highest waterfall in the park. The canyon is walled by dramatic plutonic rock. Darwin Creek is one of the four perennial streams in three million acre (12,000 km²) Death Valley National Park. Darwin Falls and Creek are fed by the Darwin Wash, which is in turn fed by the volcanic tableland of the Darwin Bench between the Inyo Mountains and the Argus Range. The small, narrow valley where the creek and falls are located features a rare collection of riparian greenery in the vast desert and is home to ...    edit   » read more

  • Saline Valley, California
Saline Valley is a large, deep, and arid valley in the northern Mojave Desert of California. Most of it became a part of Death Valley National Park when the park expanded in 1994. This area had previously been administered by the BLM. It is located northwest of Death Valley proper, south of Eureka Valley, and east of the Owens Valley. The valley's lowest elevations are about 1000 ft and it lies in the rain shadow of the 14000 ft Sierra Nevada Range, plus the 11000 ft Inyo Mountains bordering the valley on the west.    edit   » read more
  • Sudden Disruption: Saline Valley Springs Review
I've been asked about Saline Valley from so many friends, it's time to post a general review of the area for it's hot-tubs, hiking and generally great spot to get away. As some of you may know, Saline Hot Springs used to be on BLM land "just off the map" on the west side of Death Valley when it was made a park. In many respects, Saline Valley is Death Valley in miniature - low valley, tall mountains and great hiking. In the 1960s,Hippies built some soaking tubs and planted some palm trees at the hot-springs  edit   » read more
  • Eureka Valley Sand Dunes
The Eureka Valley Sand Dunes are located in the southern part of Eureka Valley, in northern Inyo County in eastern California, in the southwestern United States. Although covering an area of only 3 square miles (8 km²), the dunes rise approximately 680 feet (207 m) above the surrounding valley floor, making them one of the highest dune fields in North America. Accessed via a gravel road in Eureka Valley (which connects to a road running from Big Pine to the Grapevine section of Death Valley), the dunes became part of the Death Valley National Park as part of its expansion in 1994. Foot travel in the dunes is permitted, but vehicle access is prohibited. A primitive campground is located at the north end of the dune field. The Eureka Dunes are the home of several unique (and protected) plant species. The Eureka Dune Grass (Swallenia alexandrae), the Eureka Evening Primrose (Oenothera californica eurekensis), and the Shining Locoweed (Astragalus lentiginosus micans) are only found in ...    edit   » read more
