We improved the post-by-mail feature, now you can upload pictures and videos with just an email, it’s very simple: shot the video with your smartphone, attach the video in a message, use the private email address you got from Flickr, fill in the subject with the desired title, send … and voilà.
Riderpedia rely on Flickr for the video upload and has the same limitations. In order to use this service you need to properly setup your Flickr account and get a reserved email address: click here for a step by step tutorial.

Some little improvements to Riderpedia:
- The “follow” feature now follows the user and not just the single travel. As a follower, you will be notified of any travel updates of the user being followed. The number of followes is displayed on the travel page and the widget (screenshot n.1)
- Updating the travel by email now also updates the wall on Facebook. To enable this option you have to signup with Facebook Connect and provide the offline extended permissions to Rideperdia: click on “Edit travel details” then “Advanced options”, click on “Authorize” (screenshot n.2)
- Adding a waypoint is now easier: you can specify the location or just the GPS coordinates (for example copying and pasting from Google Earth or a roadbook). All coordinates formats are supported: Google (es. nnn.mmm,nnn.mmm), degree/decimal minutes (ie. N 45 23.23,E 45 23.23) e degree/minutes/decimal seconds (es. N 45 23 23.23, E 45 23 23.23) (screenshot n.3)
- Improved import of GPX or KML tracks from GPS devices. In this way you can display on the map the actual ruote you’ve done on the road. To improve the visual effect, it’s possible to hide the red line between the waypoints to: click on “Edit travel details” then “Advanced options”, check “Hide the track” (screenshot n.4)

Few days ago was released a brand new version for Riderpedia (code name Cardano). Was completely redesigned the home page and introduced the section “Roads” which should be a collection of the best routes around the world suggested by other Riders. This is extremely useful while planning a new trip. Plus a lot of bug fixes and improvement under the hood that made Riderpedia more stable.

- Let’s talk about pollution: check the green box below the title of the travel, next to the distance there’s the amout of CO2 emission for this travel (considering an average of 80 gr. of CO2 per km)
We just added two new type of Point of Interest: movie locations and UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the travel section, just click on “Interesting places” in the “Suggest POIs” bar in every travel page to discover this places along your favourite route.
Now it’s possible to create a travel following the roads on the map between the waypoints. Distances will be calculated more accurately. It’s possible that in some regions of the world the information about the roads are not accurated, in this case the route and the map will behave as usual (with straight lines between waypoints). To activate this option, open the “Edit travel details” in the travel page and check “Follow roads” option.

Last days we made some changes in Riderpedia following some suggestions from the users

- The controls of the map were updated as well as the waypoint icon: now it’s different from the Point of Interest‘s icon. Just to remember, the waypoint is a place you’ve passed through during your travel and has an impact on the roads followed on the map (the red line), while the Point of Interest is an interesting place along the route or a picture/video (bound to a particolar location)
- The buttons to add a Point of Interest and a waypoint were moved in a more intuitive position, directly in the top right corner of the map
- It’s now possible to suggest a Point of Interest (“Submit a POI” in the top menù) and contribute creating a database of places worth visiting during a travel. These “suggested” POIs will be available in the search results and during travel planning to all the Riders. To learn more about contributing to Riderpedia
